Adopt A Highway

This is an in-person event

This 13 minute documentary was short-listed for a 2021 Oscar nomination. It takes us into The Women’s Medical Fund and shows first hand the financial and emotional challenges of trying to provide monetary assistance to marginalized people in need of abortion care. It also exposes how a little known federal amendment called Hyde has been punishing low income folks for 47 years. After the screening, we’ll talk with the subjects of the film, as well as some advocates leading the charge to end Hyde once and for all.

The 13th Annual MCCC’s Adopt a Highway road clean-up (we clean one mile on Walkup Road between Hillside and Pleasant Roads)

Meeting place: Prairie Ridge High School on Walkup Rd. We park in the driveway entrance to the school. The clean – up usually lasts about 1 to 1 1/2hours. We provide safety vests, pickers, bags, sunscreen. Just bring a water bottle.

The Great Fight To Win the Vote: A discussion with historian and writer
Elaine Weiss

Award winning writer Elaine Weiss leads us through one of the greatest battles in history:  the civil rights of  women fighting to gain the right to vote in the United States. It’s a remarkable 72 year history culminating on August 18, 1920 in Nashville, Tennessee when the last of 36 States accomplished the ratification of the 19th Amendment. It’s an inspiring and often surprising story with a cast of amazing women and men. No one should miss this!
